That is absolutely possible...that's what happened to me with my third child! She was a total "surprise"! Ultrasounds showed that she was conceived during the time I should have gotten my period...and I was taking my birth control pills.

Its possible yes. Most women dont ovulate on the pill if taken properly. And 99% of women dont get pregnant during their period. The period is the body rejecting what should be the cushion for the egg. And by it shedding it means that their wasnt an egg in there. As to the HCG levels, they go nuts during the first 2 months of pregnancy. So, pinpointing when she got pregnant is SERIOUSLY UNLIKELY!
I have gotten pregnant on the pill here. (Was on the pill for 5 years at the time also.) I was about 4-6 hours late taking it. And here I have a gorgeous 4 1/2 year old that is singing on the couch as I am typing. lol
I dont know what else to offer to you except Congrats I guess!

The smoking is not going to increase your chances of getting pregnant. The reason that you shouldnt smoke when you are on birth control is because it can cause some pretty bad side effects. I am not 100% sure of what exactly they are but I think some of them are blood clots and or stroke. You should remember that no form of birth control is 100% effective so even if you are on the pill there is still a chance of getting pregnant. Yes you can get pregnant on pre ejaculatory fluid. Even if you wash off immediately chances are you didnt get all of it. You also should know that sperm can live up to 5 days in your body. If you have been taking your birth control pills correctly than you shouldnt worry too much. There is still a chance of you getting pregnant but it is not as great as if you werent taking your pills correctly. I would make him wear a condom from now on though. If he complains then get him one of those realistic baby dolls that they make some kids take care of in high school. I bet after a weekend of dealing with that he would never forget to wear a condom. I hope this answer helps. Good Luck and God Bless!

I got pregnant while on the Nuvo-ring-- a low-dosage birth control medication--for more than 5 months. I had switched from the pill.
I was 13 weeks pregnant when I found out--still had my cycle and was still on the BC medication. You only take the ring out during your period, so it is impossible to miss days. Unfortunately, I lost the baby at 20 weeks.
Doc said I got pregnant in the middle of my cycle--nowhere near my period.

nothing is 100%. it's totally possible that if the times varied or if she perhaps missed the pill that she could get pregnant. There might have been two eggs on that particular instance...and the 2nd was fertalized...or since the sperm can survive in the female body for up to about 2 days, I believe, it could totally be possible for her to have had sex, had the sperm still there...and concieved just as she was getting her period.

"FDA wonders if The Pill still works well: Federal advisors may vote on more stringent guidelines for birth control drugs; concerned about effectiveness."
By Aaron Smith, CNNMoney.com, staff writer
January 23 2007: 2:29 PM EST
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- FDA advisors will consider on Tuesday and Wednesday if birth control drugs need more stringent guidelines for safety and effectiveness.
The FDA is concerned over the increase in pregnancies over the last 10 years among women participating in clinical trials for birth control drugs. The agency said this could be the result of inferior products, improper use, or other factors.
The outcome of these meetings could affect the 13 million-plus women and girls who take birth control pills in America, and the estimated $4 billion market for birth control drugs, dominated by Barr Pharmaceuticals (up $0.18 to $55.70, Charts), Watson Pharmaceuticals (up $0.05 to $26.60, Charts), Johnson & Johnson (down $0.88 to $66.30, Charts) and Wyeth (down $0.80 to $50.10, Charts).
Unlike other advisory meetings it is unclear whether the panel will vote or take any other action.
The advisors will focus on the continued study of drugs after they are approved and enter the market, the effectiveness of drugs, and whether their benefits outweigh their safety risks, according to FDA documents. Much of the discussion will probably center on the success and failure rate of birth control drugs. If the advisors vote, it would be considered by the agency, which follows the advice of its experts most of the time.
Panelists will consider the inclusion of smokers, overweight women, and women with a family history of strokes in clinical trials, as well as the role of non-U.S. studies in the American population, according to documents. Also, panelists will consider whether changes should be imposed on the kind of risk and benefit information that is included on a drug's label.
