YES! It's an amazing sport to be a part of. Kids start competing as young as 4 (that is a bit too young in MHO)
I've coached some great 6 year olds.
If you do some additional research you will find that in general swimmers are often some of the best academic achievers as well. Swimming does require a unique combination of self determination and team spirit. this combination helps to make for a very well rounding individual.

My husband joined a swim team at a young age too. There is nothing wrong with it. If he is interested in joining then of course...let him. Also starting at young age can help him build up his skills. He can be offered scholorships at the end of high school also, i would highly recommend it. Why not know he's doing something productive with his time, instead of playing video games or off getting into trouble. Any sport is geat for a kid

My kids (8 & 11) swim for our city acquatic team. They both love it. Our team has kids that range from barely getting across the pool to super fast. It's all about having fun. 9 is a great time to start. Swimming is a sport that your son will be able to participate in for the rest of his life and the swim team is a great place to perfect his skills.
I'm sure he'll love it.

Let him do it by all means. It is an awesome sport. I have 2 sons one 10 and one 7. They have both been swimming competitively since they were 5. Too young? No way. it is great exercise!

Yes.You should let him try.Hey 9 is agreat age, i started swimming when I was 6 years old.Even so, you should let him have an early start.abay the age of 11 he will have increasingly good speeds.P.S. a person (Above 5) can never be too young for anything.

Like anything else, an instrument, baseball, whatever you should start younger. There is a kid on my swim team who is 8 and last year he swam Alcatraz so your son is at the perfect age right now. Also, swimming is a cheaper sport to get into so i recommend it. I wish I started swimming at a younger age.

Yes, definately.
It's an honor that they asked him.
As long as it doesn't interfere with anything important like his education, I don't see why not since he enjoys it.
It would be like getting free coaching on his swimming and diving skills, and also learning about fair competition.
Imagine how great he'll be by high school. Go for it!

No one is ever too young for swimming training, you should be proud that he is talented in this sport and give him full support, however, do not do strength and land training yet as it slows down growth
