Ask your Dr about changing to zoloft and wellbutrin they are helping me, I lost a husband and my daughters father. a lady was driving under the influence and hit him head on. We have had a long road to recovery. My husband was an only son to his mother & she is in her late 50's, our daughter is 17 now she was 16 at the time of the accident.
Make sure your Dr takes you off the effexor gradually.
your in my prayers.
Good luck

I too have lost a son and battled with depression and taken Effexor. You first have to realize that their are NO miracle drugs out there. You have to do some of the work yourself. Losing a child is hard enough, I know. There is NOTHING that will make that better except mind over matter and TIME. It took me way longer than 3 years to get to a point that I could really handle the loss and even now after 23 years, I still have hard times. Try to make yourself understand that you are normal for felling depressed, give it some time. You may need to change medications but again, don't expect a miracle except within yourself.

It is very possible that you have built up a resistance to either the drug itself or the dosage you are taking. When I took Effexor, every year or so, my doctor and I had to raise the dose because it wasn't enough. I actually had physical side effects of it no longer working on top of the emotional. I am sorry for your loss. I would definitly talk to your doctor. Are you in counseling? That is always an option as well! Good Luck!

I am sorry for your loss.

Whatever you do, do not just stop taking the medication without consulting your physician. Psych meds are usually tapered off so prevent unwanted side effects (such as siezures, increased feelings of suicide, and worsening depression). Also, it is important that you are not taking antidepressants without also recieving thearpy. When there is a specific cause to your feelings, medication is not the absolute soution. Talk to your doctor about switching and seek counsiling immediately.

You can become immune to medication after a while. This happened to my mother after taking Prozac for several years. See you doctor.
