Get to a doctor.
Could be anything - a muscle pull , a cracked rib , pleurisy (inflammation) , the beginnings of pneumonia or a heart attack. Anything that lasts for 2 or 3 days is best diagnosed by a personal visit to a physician, not over the internet.

Do you have sleep apnea by chance, if so, if the pain is every once in a while you probably had a bad nights rest and there was strain put on your heart and this is why your experiencing the pains that you are. Also, are the pains coming from the center of chest and does your chest feel tight, what about breathing, is it shallow? If this is the case, it would be in your best interest to hit the emergency room and have them do a simple EKG on you, this will give them some sort of idea what is causing the pain and they can help you.

I am 24 yrs old and have been having the same pains for years, however mine is generally in the front. I have been told that it is inflamed cartilage in your ribs. Try taking an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen. That kind of helped me. The downside to that is you cant take it all the time or your stomach lining will get messed up. hope that works. If you hear anything different throw me a line and let me know.
