Definition is: Critical-case sample. A single case that provides

a crucial test of a theory, program, or other

phenomenon.
OR
“critical case”
sample, or a case which “can make a point quite dramatically” or is “for some reason particularly important in the
scheme of things.”

That is the best I can do..Sorry~ss

A critical case sample is a population that has strategic importance to the theory in question, generally fulfilling many control factors. I couldn't think of a better example than this one on Wikipedia. This also compares other methods of sampling.
