moer than 7 days and very very heavy. I would like to get pregnant and have been trying for about 11 months. I had a routine pap smear about 11 months ago when I had my I.U.D. removed, and everything came back normal, but does a papsmear tell you if you have endometriosis? should I be concerned about my periods? every once in a while I will have sharp pains in the pelvic area but they are quick and don't continue. what could be the problem?

Neither a pap smear nor an U/S will confirm a diagnosis of Endometriosis. Talk to your gyn about the prolonged menstrual bleeding and the pain you are experiencing, no matter how insignificant you think they may be. It is likely a concern that can be rapidly addressed and resolved. Good luck and hope the fertility issue resolves as well.

I'm going through the same thing but BECAUSE of the IUD. I may have to remove it due to pain and prolonged periods. Your body may just be getting back to normal after having it removed. I don't think pap smears tell if you have endometriosis. I think you have to have an ultrasound for that. I don't know if endometriosis comes on suddenly like that. If you haven't been diagnosed before you probably don't have it. Your body is probably just trying to adjust after have a foreign body (IUD) in it for so long.
