There is no one answer and nothing that will work 100%. Keep your windows shut or use screens. Try to keep sugars, garbage and meats that attract flys away and under wrap. on the outside of your house use one of the condesed fly control liquids that you mix with oil or water (use an oil if you can if you have wood siding) You can find these at tack and saddle shops usually ones that also double as hardware stores is the best bet. They are sold in jugs and you have to mix them and put them in a sprayer. Spray the outside of your house and any decks or porches liberally on a dry day. Do this about every 30 to 45 days. More often if the problem persists. Spray around your doors. Spray your screens. I recomend doing this when your screens are off because if not you will have some knarly windows lol. You may also ask if the farmer can take more initiative with their fly control program. If they have horses they have products that they can either feed or salt blocks they can use that kill flys in the manure. I believe there are some things that can be used on cows, but not sure about if they are used for meat of milk. Good luck

I used to live on a farm. We used a fly catcher. It was a jar with an opening that flies could enter, but couldn't exit. Inside the jar we had some rotting meat in water. The smell attracted the flies and boy did we get loads. The flies would eventually drown.

We kept the jar back from the house (about 4 metres away) under a bush so we didn't get any of the smells ourselves.

Try your local hardware store for such an item. (Actually I think it was a manufactured lid that would fit to most average sized jars)

I live in the country and have the same problem. I use screens on all of my windows, just at the bottom so I don't have to look through a screen to see the view.

I also have a screened back door, which works well, but occasionally I like to leave the door open for a nice breeze and found the following helpful:

I fould that by using a beaded curtain just inside the door helps deter flies. I am using the plastic, reflective type beads that are shaped like a leaf (green with a prism effect).

The curtain is easy to install - just need two hooks, removable and cheap. Looks nice too. I guess the flies don't like the reflection and that they move.

Good luck.

The screens aren't working?
I heard a plastic bag half filled with water confuses the vision of box flies. These are the one's that circle in a group in the middle of a space.
Try painting your ceilings blue. You see this in central american countries. Flies seek protection fromoverhead bird predators by hiding inside or under things. Under a blue ceiling, they still think they are outside and won't stay.

When my family (from Texas) has outdoor picnics or family functions outdoors and under a patio of some sort, they half fill zip-lock sandwich bags with water, and tack these outside of the 4 borders of the patio. Somehow, scientifically, this works extremely well, and flies, mosquitoes, etc..stay out of the area. Maybe, when you are going to have your doors and windows open you can tack up these water bags over door frames, windows frames, etc... Also, use screens, they're very helpful.

I would go for a combination of mesh screens over doors and windows followed by a natural remedy such as citronella, eucalyptus, tea tree, lavender and sandalwood, the first four being the most useful. These are most commonly mixed with water in a spray bottle and sprayed as required. If you can stand the smell raw bulbs of garlic work very well!!

Fly screens. We use them on our animal shed to keep the flies away from the animals!

Try putting something that will attract them out in your garden, alternatively don't dust for a while and encourage spiders!
Or what about buying one of those blue electric rings that you see at the butchers. That will zap them!
