Forget it, We'll never know, I have the movie and have tried in vain to solve this question...It was done so well, that it could've been anyone of them. The only thing I do know is "the Boots", and I think a hat would give the guy away...good luck.

Yes, I too have tried and tried and used every possible deduction but to no avail. I think that the first-time director, I think his name is Steven Spielberg or something like that. Anyway I think he's gonna do pretty good for himself in the movie-making buisness ;-)
I hope they never remake this made-for-tv movie because there are many nuances, such as the one you've pointed out, that just couldn't possibly be done as well. Same goes with many Hitchcock movies. Can't say that about every Spielberg movie, but many of them as well. Excellent question! Glad I'm not the only one think this :-)

The Snakeskin boots is the driver...but we never see his face.Spielberg plays on the "unknown" fear factor in this movie.
