Not a subway. They had a monorail (above the streets). They use a light-rail (streetcar) system for commuting as well.

As others have already answered,Seattle does not have a subway, and the traffic on the freeways and local roads can become pretty snarled if you choose to drive yourself. The public transportation system is fairly reliable, however, and not that expensive.
For your perusal, then, below is the link to King County Metro, which is the public transportation system there. It pretty much covers the entire area reasonably well, and one can transfer down into the Tacoma area without too much difficulty.

You will notice that the bus system up there is sort of like New York and the other big cities, wherein the passengers encompass all walks of life - not just those without their own set of wheels. Many people in the area use this system a lot because it is simply more relaxing than driving, they can get work done instead of waiting for the lights to change, and they don't have to find a parking place, which is sometimes an adventure if one has ventured down town! :-) I parked my car tons of times when I lived in Federal Way just south of the big city and took the bus...
Have fun, and leave the driving to them! :-)

right now they are building a light rail system that, I believe, will use the bus tunnel in downtown. So once that is complete it will have a subway, although a small one that is light rail.
