I've often wondered why the Republicans got stuck with Red. As you mention Reds were Communist or Socialist. Comminism and Socialism sprang from Liberal thinkers. Definitly not from Conservative thinking.

The royalty of Europe were called Blue Bloods and they were definitly against change. They were conservative to a fault.

So there you have it Blue Bloods are Conservative and Reds are Liberals. So how did the Conservatives become red and the Liberals become blue? *LOL* It must have been a Liberal who made the choice-- just because to stay with red as liberal and blue as conservative would have been --well conservative. And because liberals lust for change--the liberal made the change.

I'm a boomer. And I still don't really like those pinko, commie, liberals.

The Zalady got it right. My husband is from the FSU and he frequently points out similarities to me between the rhetoric and strategies of the Soviet Communists and the Neocons, as well as the similarities between Hitler's rhetoric and that of the Neocons. Ultimately, all Fascists are similar on a deep level. It's interesting that red is being used as a "power" color now, not only by Republicans. Let me make a prediction here. During Bush's State of the Union Address tonight, his nose will become progressively redder and longer as the speech goes on.

Red is just a color. It means nothing. If you use it as a symbol, it is an abstraction. Red is also used to mean 'emergency' or 'hospital' so to equate red with communism and the republican party is kinda stupid. Perhaps it is old age.

Not old age, just seeing some frightening similarities.
