Neither. But in response to what you said about cleanliness, I would have to agree that Lowes definetly wins hands down.
As for prices, its almost the same, some things are a bit cheaper at Lowes, some things are a bit cheaper at Home Depot. As far as selection, both are about the same. But, if I have some specific thing I need, and I know that both will have it, I will go to Home Depot. Both offer a military discount (10%), peace officer, firefighters, etc... as well get the same discount. BUT, at Home Depot, they dont need a manager to come by and punch in their code to give you the discount, its just an OK. Hey, it helps, especially when you guy a BUNCH of stuff.
Also, both are about 7 to 8 miles away from my house, in opposite directions of course, so its a matter of which way I turn to go, which is about 50/50....

Each building has it's own 'environment control' system. Therefore the dust problem (which is always an issue in a hardware/lumber store) will vary from store to store.
My personal experience... I do most of my shopping at Lowes as I've found them to have a larger variety of 'non-building' items and they tend to be less expensive (by a small margin). Building items (lumber, nails, insulation, etc) tend to be a bit cheaper at Home Depot. The two stores I shop at are with in 1/4 mile of each other so it's not the location that makes my decision.
I almost always go to Lowes first.
Hope this answers the question.

Your right Lowes is very clean and the people are nicer when I go into home depot I feel like my chest is going to explode from all the dust particles from the wood. I say Lowes is much better than home depot

I have to agree. Home depot seems like it is set up for construction workers or contractors and Lowe's is more family/ people friendly. The place is more clean and together, Home Depot is like an old rundown warehouse.

There is both a Lowe's store and a Home Depot store near to each other a few miles from me.
I've had problems at both stores: items with parts missing, broken items, incorrect pricing, sullen Employees, etc.
I also got a quote for something from Lowe's and when I went to pay for it they changed (increased) the price! When I protested, they said "You may not like it, but that's how it is".

I just set up an appointment with a Project Manager from HD to come assess our kitchen renovation. The woman I spoke with was friendly and knowledgable. The HD that I will use is brand spanking new and I think that I will like them a lot more than the old Lowes that is 5 times as far, more difficult to access and it's pretty dirty compared to a new store. I'm sure that both, as large corporations, will treat their lesser employees poorly compared to the executives -- isn't that the corporate blight?
