Seriously, people, is it that hard to write complete sentences using correct grammar and punctuation? Is it that great a challenge to communicate without ridiculous abbreviations? Is it such a Herculean task to check your spelling, perhaps by using dictionary extensions for Firefox?
To be fair, non-native speakers are more than excused. But to see so many Americans and Britons, to name but two groups that speak the language, unable to use a semicolon is sad, sometimes even scary.
And yes, this is the second time I post this question, I'd like to get some new answers. And, since I do believe this is a current-events kind of thing (after all, tomorrow's thinkers are writing here and way too many answers are unreadable or, due to the poor language, poor in thought), I've decided to post this question on this section of Y!A.

Indeed, illegible would've been the right word. My bad on that one.

Why you talk confuse?...by the way, you could have used the word "illegible", not unreadable. You are correct though, so from this day forth I vow to use all of my college skills to answer questions. (Can I get those points, please).

The English Language was raped long before Yahoo Q&A.
Writting emails is one thing, I wish more people used spell check.
Answering a question briefly on an Internet site such as this one, sometimes requires abbreviated symbols. Many whom write here need an answer quickly.

In time, the art of writing will improve. The use of the internet is the first attempt for many of this generation to write a simple letter.
The last generation, lost letter writing, with the invention of the phone.

I have to admit that I am shocked by the quality of written language here. I think this is a result of our poor educational system where, if what I read is correct, many of the teachers are themselves only borderline educated.

Communication, both written and spoken, is extremely important to a civilized society. I am hoping (or maybe just deceiving myself), that those people who write unintelligible, incoherent, and horrendously misspelled questions, are very young. Not really acceptable, but it's easier to believe and hope that they are young rather than totally ignorant adults.

Oh for god's sake. Some people are so far up thier own backsides its unbelievable. So some people don't use correct punctuation and grammer, so what? I bet these so called "illiterates" are far nicer, far more polite and more interesting to speak to than literacy snobs.

I personally try to make my questions and answers as easily readable as is possible, but while you're right about the poor grammar that abounds here, trust me, its nothing close to the Yahoo chatrooms haha!

Thank you...I totally agree. And do they write this way in school? Do teachers allow it, or have they just become so frustrated that the staff of schools have just thrown up their hands and said... 'w/e'?
It drives me nuts, i used to complain, now I just refuse to answer those questions. God bless the future of the entire country.

I don't rape the English language. However, I'm not above molesting it on occasion.
I do know how to use proper English and punctuation. Sometimes I just don't want to use them.
