Neither...the star is basically to show other people that you find the question interesting. Also, once you star a question, it goes under a list on your page so you could get back to it easily :-)

you dont get points for stars, they are just for reference and for others to know the question is interesting. check the homepage of answers for the little groundhogs 360 page. theres more info there.
