Usually the seed company will describe the contents of seed packets as "mixed" meaning a variety of colours for the same plant, for example, mixed sweet pea flowers could be a mixture of red, pink, white, mauve, individual plants.

Varigated means that the seed is of a plant (ususally flower) that has several colours on the one plant - striped petunia, cosmos with slight stripes.

Varigated can also mean multi-toned shades on the flower petals. For example, some flowers will have the petal a deeper colour toward the centre then getting paler toward the outside edge of the petal.

For ivies, the ivy may have a mix of green with white or yellow in the leaf.
