I would like everyones honest opinion, what do you think?

Should we bring back the death penalty for terrorists that attack us here in the UK?

Such as the scumbag that tried to blow up a train full of people and only failed to do so because he was to thick to build a bomb that worked! There are multiple witnesses to this potentially horrific crime. He wanted to die, lets help him do it...

Personaly I think that these people and those that help and hide them should be executed on live TV, with absolutely NO allowance for thier religion or a chance for them to communicate any message beforehand.

Now I KNOW that may sound bad or over the top, but do you think that particular scumbag gave a toss about the young mother carrying her nine month old baby, did he give her a chance to say goodbye or make her peace with whatever god she may believe in?

In this type of situation I do beleive in the death penalty. He did not care about right or wrong....he just wanted people to die. That is wrong....

On the whole I do not agree with the death penalty. It does not act as a deterrant, and once carried out, there is no going back. However, I do think it should be brought back and used for crimes such as treason (by this I mean any threats to British democracy, attacks towards the crown, and acts of terrorism). I saw on channel 4 the other day about radical Muslims who say they are going to overthrow the British democracy and put in its place an Islamic state. These people are guilty of treason.

Before the UK decides to reinstate the death penalty, you should take a look at the problems with the capital punishment system in the United States.

The death penalty does not make us safer. It is not a deterrent (clearly not for potential suicice bombers.) States and nations that have the death penalty have higher murder rates than those that do not have it.

The death penalty costs more than life sentences. Much more.

Risks executing innocent people. Over 120 people on death row have now been released with evidence of their innocence. Many had already served decades in prison. Their cases were reopened in spite of the criminal justice system, largely because of the persistance of families and lawyers working for free.

The death penalty is hard on families of murder victims. The process goes slowly (because we don't want to execute someone who is innocent) and family members are forced to relive their ordeal in courts and in the media.
Most states here now have life without parole on the books. It means what it says, is sure and swift and rarely appealed.

None of this says that people who commit horrendous crimes should be excused. They should be severely punished. But the issue of capital punishment is too important to be settled without common sense, applied with verifiable facts. The capital punishment system has too many unavoidable flaws to bring it back for the sake of killing people who want to destroy our civilization. They win if you bring it back.

I think that we need to have the death penalty for anyone that deserves it.
I really hate the fact that some of these people who murder, rape, or pedophiles are just sitting in jail getting three meals a day, have access to weight rooms, libraries, schools...so on a so forth. They didn't take into consideration the rights of their victims, so other than a fair trial why should their rights be taken into consideration. I believe in an eye for an eye..and if they did something to take away someone else's life...wether they actually murdered someone, or ruined someones life mentally, then i believe we should carry out the death penalty.

Yeah yeah, go ahead and give me a thumb down if you want.

I believe the death penalty should be re-introduced. This government has not got the bottle to re-introduce it. I think the country should be given a referendum as to whether it should be brought back in. It will never happen though because this spineless government knows that it will be an overwhelming 'YES'. Why should the taxes of working people pay for all of the murderers and terrorists to be kept in comfort in the U.K.'s prisons.

The death penalty is not the answer. There have been many recorded instances where people have had the death sentence handed down to them. Then - maybe a few years after - they have been `proved` to have been innocent.
I would not like to be the person who has to explain to the executed persons family that the courts/judge got it wrong!

One thing that does need to be changed is the life sentence.
Life sentence should mean exactly that `LIFE`.

Then if, after a number of years, the man/woman is found to be innocent - because of the arrest of the real culprit etc - they can be released.
You can not release a dead person!

Would you be happy if it was a family of `yours` that had been sentenced to death. Then say, after a number of months/years, it was found that he/she was innocent?
Even 100% proof - DNA etc - is not perfect.

Life should mean life. Then the accused should die in prison.

The death sentence is not the answer. But to spend 20/30/40/50/60/70 or 80 years in prison is a long, long, long time to suffer.
And please don`t say it costs peoples taxes to keep them incarcerated, locked up. I know it does. And I`m quite happy to pay this tax if it means that someone who has been imprisoned wrongfully may have a chance to be released, which would not happen if he/she were DEAD!
Be careful who you say should be sentenced to death, be very careful.

The death penalty only emboldens terrorists. These are people willing to die for their cause, so by killing them you are doing their bidding.

Also I think you are sick for wanting to see a live execution. People like you make me sad.

I have long said that the Death Penalty should be brought back to the UK. In this age of DNA it is unlikely that the justice system would get it wrong and would be less of a drain on the country's purse.
However in this case, if this man were put to death he would die a hero for his cause, and there fore be proclaimed a martyr, just what he wanted in the beginning.
