Yes, the nucleus contains DNA which is the blueprint of all proteins. DNA codes for messenger RNA which goes from the nucleus to the ribosomes. Transfer RNA drags amino acids over to the ribosomes and then the Messenger RNA gets read out. The amino acids get assembled as proteins.

Proteins serve as structure for the cell, also as hormones that control cell metabolism. Proteins also cover parts of the DNA so that all the messages coded there will not be read out at once.
