As the medical industry becomes more and more socialized in this country, highly qualified people are leaving the profession in droves. This is sometimes referred to as a "brain drain," and it is very damaging to the medical profession.
Do you support the use of force to keep quality people in the medical profession?
If not, given that our society cannot afford to offer monetary incentives outside of the free market, what other ways can we keep quality medical professionals?

Ruth and CollateralBrainDamage, I agree that the insurance industry is part of the problem, but they were only responding to the market created by government intervention in the medical industry. When the government went to a DRG system for medicaide and medicare patients, caregivers were forced to shift those costs to private insurers and fee-for-service patients. In self-defense, insurers then lobbied Congress for a DRG system of their own, and got one. Now, fee-for-service patients are nearly extinct, costs covered by insurance continue to skyrocket because of increasing demand and shrinking supply, and millions are forced to do without.
Hawndawg, who pays for the grants, subsidies and increased payments? The aggregate cost of medical care has already increased more than four-fold (in terms of percentage of actual GNP) since medicare and medicaide were instituted. We can't afford to allot more of our resources to medical expenses without a reduction in quality of life.

Also, no one has answered the threshold question: do you support the use of force to keep people in the profession?
Also, do you support immagration exceptions to allow more doctors into this country?
