right to voice our opinions?... i just feel with all this racism talk in england ect. its highlighted just how controlled we all are.. were not allowed to say words because they may offend people. were not allowed to speak what we think because of laws and fear of being screamed at for having an opinion. I understand there are limits to what we should be allowed to say such as racist comments or comments that create a hierarchy and make people feel unequal toothers just cause of colour or religion i agree that shouldnt be allowed but it is gettin really ridiculous.. such as a quote from a contestant on shipwrecked has started even more talks 'i feel people are coming into our country and ruining our culture' which i do agree with because english pubs that have been round for 100s of yrs are bein turned into curry shops, and takeaways im just fed up of seein england become unrecognisable. I'm open minded to different cultures so dont start callin me racist or accuse me of discrimination

we are losing our identity! very good point-it isnt christmas anymore its a winter holiday..
do we see muslim schools allowing catholic kids in.. no.. but if a catholic school was to not allow a muslim person in we would be screamed at for being discriminatory.
- and yes the cultures are becoming too mixed, we should go to the other countries to see a whole different and new culture but how can we when were gettin a half hearted culture experience right in our own homes
- soon there will be no english culture, and a whole history will become extinct
its just very sad

I agree!! I have nothing against a bit of immigration but living in London, almost anywhere you go it feels like being English is the minority. Where i live we have been getting a big influx of Polish people and there are so many polish shops now, when a few years ago there were none. And what's with that Polish Natwest advertisement. Why are they advertising their services in Polish. Surely if they have come here to work then they should be able to speak English. I wouldn't go to another country to work not knowing any of the language! Another thing when migrants come to this country they end up setting up their own little communties - there is no effort to integrate! It is this lack of integration that leads to people having prejudices towards people of other nationalities.

It seems to be that way here in the States, too. The thing that bugs me the most is seeing Spanish signs right under the English ones. If you are going to live in a country other than your own, learn their language! Don't try to change our country into yours. Try to learn a new culture! I live in Michigan (the state shaped like a mitten) and near Detroit there is the largest Arab population in the States. For the most part when I have been there the people have been friendly, helpful and respected me by speaking English. They are getting a bad rap for a lot of things that they have had nothing to do with.
The bottom line is, when you adopt a country to live in I think,to a degree, you have to follow their customs and language as your own. That doesn't mean that you forget where you came from or your customs and language from there. There has to be an effort to learn the ways if your new country and some respect, though. If they want it to be just like home why don't they just stay there?

You're right, we are losing our culture because we're becoming globalised. I live in Ireland and it's scary watching everything change. We're getting high rise building, polish pubs, indian curry shops. I dont have a problem with any of those, but Id prefer if Ireland stayed Ireland and India stayed India, so I can visit there nad experience the culture full blown. It's like when you go to Spain now, it's all built for tourists. Lots of English and Irish pubs EVERYWHERE! Nothing Spanish about it except the sun and Sangria. I think the racism card is pulled too much. I dont think the girl on Big Brother was racist, she was just stupid and ignorant, there was no need for a global discussion on racism. Anway, that's my two cents, sorry for rambling and thanks for bringing up and important issue.

I agree with every thing you are saying it is the same way here in America. we are supposed to be free countries but in fact were are enslaved by our own growing and engulfing culture. we have to watch what we say or do because immigrants or anyone for that matter has more of a right not to be offended then my right of freedom of speech. We are living in the PC generation and it sucks it will ultimately lead into a revolution of the common white man and women. We will as a whole eventually get tired of this and start fighting back. We are turning into a weak race. I do not mind other races it does not faze me. But i would be ignorant not to see them and have pride in my own before the others as is all the other races. It is a drag to be white now a days but we will get fed up and come back from this anti offensive slavery we are put in.

The Government is way too over protective and worried about offending other cultures to the point of ridiculousness. For example, my son is in nursery and for one whole term they learnt about a different cultures holy festival, which is fair enough but then they covered 'winter' over the winter term...not christmas?! Why not? This christmas we had up 'winter' lights in the centre, not christmas lights and hardly anywhere played christmas songs. This is just a couple of examples but I do agree that Britain is losing it's identity.

I totally agree with the very issues and points raised. It get to me that are culture is being slowly torn away from us, and that you have to be continually pc. There doesn't seem to be freedom of speech like there used to be. I'm not saying that other cultures aren't entitled to their opinions. I'm just saying that we as a country should be allowed to express ourselves and uphold our traditions and cultures without fear of retribution.
I feel better now! :)

what i think is that your afraid of change and sometimes the world needs to be changed and it is discrimination or bigotry when you talk about other religions as if there evil. all the religions on earth no matter how there believers have differences or anger toward each other all lead to one thing a god the Creator of life. and about old buildings being taken down and done other things if you believe its historical then fight for it instead of complaining about it because it has absolutely nothing to do with freedom of voice because we do have freedom of voice at least as i know here in America.
