Menstrual blood, while not optimal for sperm is not a spermicide.
Depends on what you mean by conception. Sperm could travel through the uterus and fertilize the egg during menstruation, then the egg could start its long journey down the tubes and implant (this takes at least 5 days which is why emergency contraception works). By the time the egg gets to the uterus menstruation could have stopped.
The egg could, though this is rare, implant in the lining during menstruation. Also your body may shed all the lining the first day but take 3 days to get it all through the cervix. Meaning the egg could implant in fresh lining.
Generally speaking you need about 2 weeks from the time of ovulation to the time of menstruation to get pregnant. Women with shorter times generally have difficulty conceiving and may need medical assistance in regulating their body. However, difficult is not impossible.
So if you had sex the day before menstruation and you are concerned about pregnancy. You can take a urine test between 2-3 weeks after you had sex. Blood tests can be used earlier. So test 2 weeks after the sex, then again when your next period is due and if you don't get a period then see your doctor.
Or if you are like I was a few years ago, not really wanting to get pregnant and you need to know NOW. Go get the blood test. Your doctor can tell you if it is too soon or not for the blood test.
Best of luck!

Technically, no. In the perfect 28 day cycle you ovulate on day 14 and start your menses on day 1. If you have a period, you are shedding your lining as well as the egg that may/may not have been fertilized. However, there are some people that get light periods the first couple of months into a pregnancy. Sperm can live up to a maximum of 5 days. If you are an early ovulater (let's say day 8) and you had sex day 4 of your period it's possible that the sperm could have fertilized your egg when you ovulated on day 8. This is very uncommon, though. I would just wait a week or two and take a pregnancy test & go from there.

Conception can occur on any day of the month depending on the sperm longevity and your ovulation cycle. Sperm can live longer than 5 days. Everything is so individual! "Usually" does not mean "always", and there are exceptions to any rule. The answer to your question is definitely YES, it is possible.

Okay, technically it is possible for you to ovulate very soon after your period, but if that were to happen the luteal phase (ovulation to menstruation) would be too short, so the egg would not implant. If you are TTC I would recommend charting your cycle and you would be able to know when you would ovulate and then no further confusion. Fertilityfriend.com is the site I use to chart. Here's a link to my chart http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/139ce2
It's free and very easy to use. Hope this helps.

Yes it can I read somewhere that sperm can wait out your period and fertalize the new egg that is coming into the picture. And this happened to me, although I had a hard time getting people to believe it because everyone said it couldnt happen. But i talked to my Dr. and it can happen and in my case did happen. So good luck!!

Sperm can only live 5 days in the best environment and menstrual blood is not the best environment. If you were to ovulate very very early (you would have very short cycles) then it is possible to get pg on your period. However, this is very very rare. Please, try not to worry too much about it and good luck to you!!
