I've noticed that since i've had braces that i'm eating a TON slower than i used too; in fact, i used to eat really fast. Now i'm eating nearly the same things i used to, minus a few obvious (nuts, chips... etc) and i'm always finishing it cold. Anyhow, i've noticed that i've already lost 2 lbs in the 6 weeks and that my love handles are slowly deminishing and my stomach is flattening back up.

Is this really the reason, or could it be something else?

Yes its true, those braces make it difficult for you to eat, so you eat slower, you need to chew more, and you get satisfied faster cause the hunger signal gets to the brain some 20 minutes after you have had enough.... so now, probably you get satisfied before, cause you are eating slower.... It could also be that you are eating less cause you can't chew well.

Eating slower doesn't burn more calories. You are eating less because you are allowing your stomach time to alert you that it is satisfied. Have you ever eaten and a half hour later you realize that you really over ate? This wouldn't happen if we all ate slower. We would get the signal that we are satisfied and stop over eating. Does this make sense.?

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

It helps you lose weight because it takes time for your body to realize how much you've ate. The slower you eat the more time your body has to start digesting the food and therefore you feel full.

Yes. By eating slower, you give your stomach time to feel full quicker, therefore eating less.

The theory is that if you eat slower, you will eat less.

Well, I drink apple juice before i eat (i get full). I think you should try drinking something made from fuits or vegetables instead of plain water.
