I'll point you in the right direction...

Why adding states matters -- because each state gets two senators and members of Congress.

The North was generally anti-slavery, the south pro-slavery.
Guess which section of the country relied on slaves for its economic base.

The Underground Railroad helped escaped slaves get to Canada.

Lincoln was anti-slavery and stated so quite frequently. His election inevitably led the South to split away.

Just look up "Slavery", "Lincoln" and "Missouri Compromise" and you'll find all the answers on Yahoo or Google.

Dont plagiarize- why are you worried you might get in trouble for cheating?

The North moved away from slavery, and view the institution as Southern. Most Northerners were not abolitionists though. They wanted it to stay in the South, and not the West. The North had an influx of immigrants to help supply the economy with work. The South did not have an influx of immigrants, and depended upon farming for their wealth. The South had grown into King Cotton, because they supplied most of the North, and Europe with cotton. The wealth of the South depended upon not paying for their labor concerns.

The underground railroad was a system of getting runaway slaves to the North. It was a series of code words and safe houses to help the runaways.

The Compromise of 1850 allowed territories to vote on slavery in the territory. It also passed the fugitive slave act. Which permitted the capture of slaves in the North.

South Carolina seceded from the Union, because they had lost hop in Congress. The South thought they had no hope of keeping what they had in Congress, and thought the North would effect their King Cotton.
