That theory is fine for the people who can afford it!!!!

But what about the people who genuinely cannot and struggle with getting a family holiday????

The air travel industry will have you believe, that the 2litre cars that are becoming so popular do more damage to the environment than planes.

How would the tax be enforced, on British owned airways, or would all airlines using British air space be forced to pay.

I agree in principle with what you say, but Long haul trip's, tend to be once a year/2 year luxury, whereas, people use their cars every day.

If people want to go they will pay regardless. At the end of the day, more tax revenue for the government doesnt help the environment unless they actually spend it on methods of reducing pollution. I cant really see the government giving the cash to the aerospace companies to develop cleaner engines which is what they should do with any extra tax they get from this increase.

its just a government tactic to make you believe charging more for air travel is going to have a great impact on the planet. to make you think its 'greener'.

its actually just another way for them to get more tax from you.

Reasons:
1. Air travel creates only a small ammount of emmisions compared to road travel, factories etc.

2. departures from uk airports makes up only a very small percentage of the small percentage mentioned in 1 above.

3. why is the tax applied to flights booked in advance of the 1st feb when the new tax comes in? the flights are already booked and so will take place anyway... only costing more.

I take it you don't travel much.....if you did you would realise that all this extra tax does is make a £400 flight cost £600. It dosent stop people needing to fly... just makes it more expensive for them.

There are better ways of saving the planet ,some people need long haul to visit friends and family, and this is just another way to get more money out of people ,for the governments coffers.

people will still take holidays and the need to go somewhere warmer than where they already live means they will pay - besides why do the government keep talking about and investing in space travel etc doesn't that cause just as many problems? yet think a short hop over to Spain is more harmful? besides we need to keep the tourist trade in other countries going for some its their main income

Deer Luke,

Warmer means greener...sub zero temperaments are best dealt with similarly, whole heatedly and the rest of the fuzz. .The Buzz on long hauls is all residual in it's lack of terms and truly significant meaning and or meanings.

The meeting is adjourned.
