If you file them, only move the file from the outside toward the middle on both sides of the nail, do NOT file from side to side. Also, polishing them will only make it worse so it's good that you don't, as they will dry the nail out and make them split more.

Hot oil or paraffin treatments can be helpful, also make sure you have enough vitamin K in your diet.

Also you can take vitamins for your hair, skin, and nails that will make your nails grow faster, so that the ends of the nails don't get as old and dried out because it didn't take as long for it to grow that far. If you can't find any specifically for that, prenatal vitamins do about the same thing. Don't use nail hardeners, while they make the nail less prone to breaking, bending, and chipping, they make them more prone to splitting because of the drying effects of it.

I have the same problem and have been taking Vitamin E. It is good for the skin and nails. I have also heard Gelatin Capsules are good for nails. You can find them at any Grocery Store, near the Jello. I wear a Clear nail polish to help strengthen the nails also. Surely a clear polish will not offend your work place.. Good Luck

Soak your nails in a bowl of lukewarm water with a pinch of salt added to it. Keep the fingers in the bowl for 10-15 mnts. Do this before you go do bed and also while you wake up in the morning.
This will surely help you to certain extent.

Do not use nail paints until your nail splitting problem is solved. Use good quality nail polish(of international standards).

Try eating a jelly cube a day, use nail strengtheners, some soak into the nail so that it doesn't look like polish, drink plenty of milk, or finally have nail extensions they don't have to be long, but you nails will have time to recover and stop splitting. I did the latter and it worked for me

as well as eating properly and taking vitamins etc, get a buffer bar and use it once a week. It'll strenghten your nails, make them shine without any polish and stimulate growth. Use it til the nail feels warm and then add a drop of cuticle gel to stop splitting.

Can you wear clear polish? If go, get SecheVite. It is the most amazing stuff I have ever put on my nails. (I may have spelled that a little wrong).

i would recommend using an almond nail oil as it really hydrates the nails, massage it into cuticles once or twice a day. the salon i work in uses solar oil by creative nails. also not over filing or buffing the nails as this can weaken them. hope this helps!

Try a clear polish. I also advise Sally's hard and tough nails.
