The idea of someone breaking in whil i'm home freaks me out so much that I've become just a little OCD and I check the locks several times before I go to bed. I'm just curious how common it is and what happens.

Yes; I called the cops and then shot near one of them with a .30-06 and they ran away.
Now I don't crate my dogs at night.
EDIT: In response to your paranoia, just get a security system installed, and have the door(s) rigged up willy.

No but when my neighbor was a teenager he walked right into my house without knocking.
