There are books that depict female in a demeaning manner in PRESCHOOL?
Let's take artbooks, for example, showing Venus, or a naked woman. I think if it's tasteful art showing nudity, it would be fine. Art is art, after all--if anything, I'd assume it is examining the beauty of women, not demeaning them.
If it's something like... How Are Babies Born? I don't see anything demeaning about showing nude women in those types of books, either.
I don't know what you mean by "demeaning" manner in books, but I also believe in not censoring books unless it's an extreme case. Otherwise, how will we learn about all the bad things in the world and be able to form our own thoughts about them? There will always be bad things in the world, and I know staying away from them doesn't do anything but make you more of a sheltered being.
But that's just me.

A really interesting question, assuming we define "demeaning" as "lowering the value of" or putting down" or "subjugating".
And since women have been "demeaned" since the first cave man made his wife walk five steps back of him an carry the wood and water, while he strode ahead carrying only his pride and his spear. is it now time to stope this order of things and have the woman equal in every way to man?
Well, let's make a start. Let's start with the Catholic Church where women are demeanedi n every way. Women cannot make the priesthood, cannot write church laws, cannot officiate at marriages, cannot handle church money or even baptize a child.
So any religious book would have be removed from schools and then all the dirty book like Catcher in the Rye wouuld have to be removed or books with the four letter word and on and on.
I think most members of the Forum would prefer to have these books on the shelves and let the parents instruct their children to observe and perhaps make changes to them and to society.
When I was a little kid I recall my mother taking me over to a corner of the drug store and telling me " look over there, there are all the dirty books, pictures of girls disgracing the beauty of women, men imitating animals, putting their penises in exits instead of entrances. If you ever want to look at them, remembere that each time you do I will be ashamed of you".
I felt so bad that those books never became a part of my of my life and still don't to this day since I would never want my mother to be ashamed of me.

I don't believe in censorship, unless it's obvious (unless it's a picturebook with daddy giving mommy a spanking when she is bad or something). You are smart enough to know when something is demeaning, right? Chances are you were exposed to media with women in demeaning/over-traditional roles when you were young, and you lived to tell about it. You probably are referring to some book where mom cooks/cleans/nurtures, and dad makes the decisions. Most kids get more of their ideas from what goes on in their own families, not what they read at preschool.

It depends on the book, I would think, and the definition of "demeaning." Should we remove all books that contain evil witches or stepmothers? Of course not.
And who gets to define "demeaning?"

Preschool and school books must depict gender equality. Children are very impressionable, and at that age, their opininions are being formed. These opinions will stay with them lifelong.

Are you talking about books that show a mommy cleaning or books that show daddy giving mommy a beating? There is a difference.

Pre school. What are you on about? Next it will be getting rid of books with green pictures. Pre-school? Give them a chance before you start infecting them with your stupidity.
