i genuinely believe that Media player shud solve the need....
if not then try WinAmp 5.3, els my personal fav is "Real One Player".....
Window media player:sound quality
WinAmp:ease of operation, skins, plugins
RealOne:ease of operation, sound clarity & faster connection with online audio/video.also adjustment of equalizer (esp in V2 gold version)is easy to get the desired settings, since there are only 3 levels(bass, mid, treble)
also if u need more out of media player get ACE Mega codecs pack(available as a free download @ c|net's downloads.com).
it has features like file convertion, ogg filter & also play variety of other mobile formats like 3gp etc 2 play mms clips

Windows XP is a very flexible operating system, any mp3 or mp4 player works good on it. However out of experience i would stick with Creative Labs (always been making a lot of hardware's like mouse, webcam's etc. since windows 3.11 which has been working awesome on all windows operating systems)

I bought a creative mp3 MuVo 1 Gb, works very well with Windows Xp and i am impressed, its cost effective too.

I'd go with the Zune....it's a microsoft product so obviously it will sync better with your system.

However...itunes is super easy to use...just depends on what your interests are.

Happy mp3'ing!

I use NERO7. It's great for mixing your CD's and has an MP3 converter too so if your songs are windows WAVE files. it will covert them to mp3 for you.
