Sometimes he will eat if someone else feeds him. And he'll usually eat if we make him sit there and wait, especially if we make him watch us eat. But sometimes he just refuses to eat it, period. The last couple of weeks I've had to give him a bottle more than once just to get him to eat. I know I shouldn't do this, but some days it's the only way to get him to eat.

What do you guys think? Does he suddenly have a problem with me feeding him? Or is he simply bored of eating babyfood?

(Note: I'm getting ready to start feeding him other things, some finger foods. I just haven't gotten there yet. I'm beginning to think he just wants to feed himself. Any ideas?)

At nine months there is a stubborn stage children go through. I have four children and they were all the same way. First of all don't worry. He will eat when he is hungry. You are not depriving him and giving him a bottle is OK. He needs something. Second, he sees what you are eating and at this age he is also curious. He wants what you have. At age nine months it would be perfectly OK to mash some cooked baby carrots or potatoes and feed him this. Third, he wants to do it himself. Let him. You can't let him feed himself baby food but you can let him eat cheerios, soft potatoes, soft carrots, pinched up pieces of bread, scrambled eggs, any soft foods he can pick up easily and put in his mouth. While he is feeding himself eggs, try slipping in a bite of baby food. Lastly, do not feed him corn (he can't digest it till he is one) and do not give him honey till he is one (honey before age one can actually poison him). He ''thinks'' he's a big boy now so let him try to feed himself sometimes.

I baby sit a 7 month old that is the same way if he cant put it in his mouth himself he doesn't want it. He hates the baby food and only wants like cereal and things like that that he can feed to himself. So its just about time for him to start with real food..I think its probably just his way of telling you he wants different food. He knows your the one that feeds him most and if he gives you a hard time and doesn't want to eat them maybe he thinks he will start to get something different. Good Luck!!

I have a daughter who was just like that. Once I started to feed her table food it got a lot better. Gerber makes baby microwave meals for toddlers. The food is really small and they have the right amount of veggies and protein. I loved those things. They are kinda expensive but very convenient.

Have you tasted babyfood? It's disgusting (both flavor and texture) He should be fine with regular foods, if they are prepared properly. I've never known a baby that old who couldn't handle steamed veggies that have been cubed, and meat that is chopped fine.

He probably wants to eat just like you guys. Put a plastic sheet on the floor under his chair, prepare a plate like yours, and let him go at it. I know with my kids, after they've 'fed' themselves enough, they'll eat when I feed them some.

It sounds like he is bored of baby food, my son got bored around that age. Good foods to try are par cooked bite size pieces of veggies, or soft fruits, but no citrus fruits. At eight mos old our doctor told us it was ok to start feeding him meat, protein fills them up faster and keeps them fuller longer, it helped him sleep through the night. He can pretty much eat anything you east as long as it is soft enough and bite size, just stay away from eggs, uncooked milk, honey, citrus and peanut butter.

Most children are a bit older before they go thru this stage. Just place finger food in front of him and a sippy cup (throw the bottles in the trash) and let him feed himself (little Mr. Independent). He will eat when he's hungry - just don't worry about - he's just going thru a stage.

If it's the canned type, maybe his taste buds kicked in and he can taste how horrible the stuff is. Have YOU tried it?
We always fed our daughter the same food we ate, after putting it through the blender. Never had a problem with that. Once we tried to give her Gerber's (the blender was broken) and the first spoonful, she spit it right out.

9 months old. Give him table food already poor kid. He is definately bored. Does he have any teeth? If yes than just give him food already make it small but let him have it. If he has no teeth yet than make the food in minute bites that he can not choke on and give him table food it is time.

Is he by any chance teething?? I just received this in an e-mail this morning from Baby Weekly: "Early signs of teething include drooling (which may then cause a rash, cough or diarrhea), fussiness, waking at night, biting, and loss of appetite."

Try letting him feed himself and see what happens. He probably does want to just feed himself.
