run, A portion of a stream, often bounded by rapids or riffles where the water flows without turbulance.

basin, A wider almost flat bottomed canyon, perhaps formed by glaciers.
ocean, a large body of salt water, perhaps larger than a sea
sea, a large body of salt water but not so big as an ocean, Salton Sea. Dead Sea
lake, a still body of fresh water more or less round except when formed by damming a river, in which case it is canyon shaped

Although they are all bodies or vessels of water, there a differences:
lake is a body of water surrounded by land, rivers or streams flow in a channel towards or emptying into a body of water such the ocean or a lake. A gulf is a stretch of sea with a deep inlet with a narrow mouth, in a bay the coast line curves inwards. A straight is a body of water that can connect to oceans such as the Magallean Straight.Fjord is a narrow inlet between two narrow, steep sides usually with a glacier the rest is up to you try Wikipedia

I think Mike 1942 pretty much got it there. However to impress your teacher (I suppose) don't forget the little known bight. (yes, this is spelt correctly). It is like a gulf, but smaller in scale. An example is on the East Shore of Hudson Bay in Canada. It almost looks like a perfect semi-circle. Likely caused by a meteor, though that's still up for debate.
