If medical science can make it possible for an individual to change their gender "visually"...if an individual feels it is necessary; and by some laws an individual can also legally change their gender as well...

...can an individual change their racial background if one chooses too? And if it is NOT possible...why not? I know this question will bring up alot of moral and ethical answers...but I would like to hear more medical and legal answers. I also know comparing transexualism to race is problematic, but I feel there are very simialar points between the two that are comparable.

If medical science makes it possible to change ourselves visually, and laws can be easily changed; Should people have the option to change their race?

Though it wouldn't be strictly impossible to change various features that illustrate your race like skintone or hair color, imagine trying to change your actual bone structure. For example, a sterotypical black women can easily dye her hair and bleach her skintone, but the prosthetic surgury involved in narrowing her nose and lips would be exstensive and costly. Tha't's just for starters. I have also read nonfiction crime novels where inspecters are able to identify a victom's race by the shape of their knee bones and such. So race is more than just skin deep which makes it much harder and complicated to change. I wouldn't say impossible though. This leads you to wonder, is race just physical features? I don't have a great answer for this, but I think in some cases it is and in some it isn't. If you come from a race with many cultural practices and lots of heritage you will most likely still retain the thoughts and ideals that come from certain aspects of your racial group, regardless of what you look like. So I guess your question really comes down to what you consider race to be; physically, mental, or a mixture of both.

I think people should be allowed the option to go through dramatic plastic surgury (though I certainly don't agree with it), but again, does changing your physical appearence truly change your race?

that is actual a crucial project of paramount value. i wish there's a international regulation keeping human beings adversarial to racial discrimination. Racial discrimination is the onset of genocide clone of what's happening in some parts of the international. What got here about in Croatia turned right into a non secular discrimination which become discribed through the media as "Ethnic cleansing" that is now occurring in Darfur.

No. Thats sayin some races are better. There is a HUGE difference between looking at your penis and thinking it should be a vagina than looking at your black skin and thinking it should be white.

Besides, I don't care what anyone says, I can spot a blackie anywhere. Most creoles and southerners can.

How can you feel black? You wake up and want a 40 and to go pick up some food stamps? Or maybe you like singing so that makes you feel black. Or dancing? Or robbing? Or.....

I don't know...it opens the door for massive racism there.

If you changed your racial background, you wouldn't be the person you are today. Are you saying change your skin color? You are still the same race even if your color is different.

you can't change your racial background because medical science cannot change the genes passed to you from your parents. i would change my skin color if possible though because I get way too burnt at the beach!
