I am pretty much certain that you certainly will have to apply for a visa, and I'm not sure your chances are too good.
When completing the landing card for entry to the USA you have to declare any convictions (as far as I am aware) and if you lie you may as well knock any chance of going to the States ever again on the head anyway.
I would recommend honesty. Contact the US Embassy wherever you are, tell them your history including whether or not that conviction is deemed spent, or if you are now on any kind of sex offenders register. I would have thought that it certainly won't be a straightforward process for you.

I'm sure you would need a visa and am pretty sure you would be turned down because of your conviction, even though it was some time ago and you now have a wife and family. You need to look into that as soon as possible as you might have to rethink your holiday plans.

Contact the US Embassy. You would definately need a visa is you are allowed to visit. It takes quite some time, so get started today.

Make the appointment and make certain you have everything you need or it will take even longer!

Good luck!

You may not get a visa with criminal record! CHECK.
But you WILL need one.
