I want to meet a friend for lunch and have a large salad as a main course, something akin to a Chef's salad, Cobb salad, etc. Where can you suggest I go in San Francisco? (My friend lives in West Portal--or we can go anywhere along the BART or Muni in downtown SF or Daly City)

P.S. I saw an earlier Yahoo answer which was "Bubba Gump". Sorry--rule out all theme chain restaurants that are simply tourist traps.

There's a Squat and Gobble right there in West Portal. It has big salads.

Try Chowhound boards for help.

In the Marina, Plutos makes very good salads, and they grill tri-tip or chicken put it on the salad warm: Chestnut Street.

Taylor's Refresher at the Ferry Building (Market & Embarcadero) reported to have good Chinese Chicken Salads.
