Can anyone recomend any good Comp Sci books for beginners. Plus any other to help further my quest for general computer knowledge down the line.

Frankly I would suggest starting with the free tutorial sites first. The basics of programming are the same no matter which language you are learning. You need to understand boolean logic (a MUST), IF THEN ELSE, WHILE, REPEAT UNTIL and other basic structures. If you are going to be doing database work, make sure you understand what normalization is. And understand how the program interacts with the OS. Some sites woud be:

Anything in QUE, and the UNLEASHED series is always very Good. Avoid the for Dummies series, and get the Most Relevant books. If you need Books for Office Products or Excel, check out mrexcel.com

I liked all of the Dietel Dietel authrored books on C++/Java.
