My son wants to do his Spanish project on shopping (Mercado) in Mexico...I feel like I have been searching and searching for either the history of it or just something to give me more an educational side of it.

I feel silly for asking this, but I am just stumped. I asked this question in the travel/Mexico section as well to try and cover all bases. Anything that can point us in the right direction is greatly appreciated!

Try wal-mart S.A on the computer or contact Wal-Mart I know they do a ton of business in Mexico and have stores down their. but call the Bentonville, Arkansas home office and ask for a CSR.

Do a search for "mercado" and you will find lots of great stuff... you can also take him to a Mexican mercado and have him experience all the goodies they have...

Not sure where you live but if you're in the LA area... we have Grand Central Market... its great!

Good luck!

Well, if you are doing it about a trip in Mexico, shopping, and it isn't due for a while, have your son ask to change his project to a different idea. Also, i have a spanish teacher. So, i'll give you the address, and you can e-mail her. Just don't tell her it was me.

As far as I can understand, your question is what your son can learn from shopping. The assignment is for Spanish language class. The teacher wanted to know how your kid uses important Spanish words useful in shopping.Help him the steps one has to go to buy things from supermarket and let him change them to Spanish (to practice them). He can design a short story to describe some character of his imagination shopping in supermarket. He can focus on points like whom and what to ask in case of problem in shopping, how he acknowledge people, how he can compare the quality of item he wants to bye and so on.

What ENFP reported is the perfect answer thus far. It doesn't discriminate between dialects. different solutions are also ok yet it really is mexican Spanish. So, '¿Qué pasa, amigo? ¿Quieres ir al parque a patinar?'. Cheers!

Actually "Mercado" means Market. "Shoping" means "de compras"
