ESPN lists 11 candidates today (John Clayton). The actual team has pretty of upside so that would attract interest. Romo is a nice QB to work with. Yea, he messed up the FG hold but he's only started a little more than half a season. Give him another year of starting and hope he doesn't regress- he could even better! Great receiving core (Glenn, Witten, Owens if he stays). Great running duo in Jones and Barber. Young talented defense.

The only issues are control and pressure. Lots of pressure to win in Dallas- anything less than a Super Bowl in a few seasons is a failure. Jerry Jones will want to make all the important personnel decisions- does an incoming coach want this?

I think the top candidates are Ron Rivera and Wade Phillips with Norv Turner as a dark horse. Rivera is a hot prospect and Dallas will peak his interest if they send out the right signals. It's his first NFL head coaching job so he'll be easier for Jones to control. I'm hearing Wade Phillips' name a lot. He has a winning record as head coach and he's probably dying to be head coach again. Not that hard to control for Jones. Norv Turner knows the Dallas system, but his head coaching record is shaky- he's probably viewed as an offensive coordinator at best.

I don't think Stoops will leave Oklahoma for the NFL unless he has lots of control (like Nick Saban in Miami got). Jeff Fisher is under contract and won over his former GM in a power struggle in Tennessee. Dallas would have to compensate the Steelers for Cowher, and I really think Cowher wants to rest for a year. After a poor season in Atlanta, Jim Mora will have to wait a year or two before a team will take a chance on him. Mike Martz is too power-hungry for Jones. The other candidates are either retreads or too small of a name for Jones to hire.

Norv Turner seems to be a pretty logical choice. He's the guy who turned Troy Aikman into a Hall of Famer, but his track record as a head coach stinks.

Most of the other names that I've heard thrown around don't make much sense. Charlie Weis isn't leaving Notre Dame and even if he wanted to, the buyout on his contract is huge. Bill Cowher left Pittsburgh to take some time away from the game, I can't imagine he's coming back to coach Dallas, and then there's the issue of the Steelers wanting to be compensated for it. Bob Stoops has never been a head coach in the NFL, but that doesn't seem to matter to anyone anymore. I'm just not sure he would want to leave Oklahoma.

Also factor in the fact that Jerry Jones is insane and I don't think anyone knows who the new coach is gonna be.

Ron Rivera, Mike Sherman, or Wade Phillips are probably most likely. I don't think they can lure a powerful head coach from NFL/College ranks because they'll want control, and as they saw during the Parcells era you never have control when Jerry Jones is your boss. Really, if Jones was signing players behind the back of Bill Parcells, does Bob Stoops really think it'll be different for him?

Rivera has never been an NFL head coach before and would likely be willing to work with Jones. Wade Phillips hasn't been one in a while and he has experience working with the 3-4. Mike Sherman seems to want back in to coaching and he has a good reputation around the NFL, but his salary demands could keep him out. He reportedly accepted the Cardinals job but Arizona withdrew when he asked for $4 million per year.

The cowboys have 2 second string running backs, no offensive line, a cancer at wide receiver, a safety who can't cover people or make a tackle unless he's behind them, and a QB who choked like Saddam Hussein.

It doesn't matter who coaches the Cowboys.

I say Capers at San Diego (offensive coach) but Jerry Jones is unpredictable.

If Jerry Jones waves enough money under his nose, Nick Saban will take the job.

I think it will be Ron Rivera he put together a terrific defense and that is currently Dallas strong point.
