The theory of how they work is based on the composition and crystal structure of each type. It is thought that each type vibrates to a different frequency and is comparable to other healing energies and colors. They work by holding close to the skin which transmits the energy.

well 1st of all do gemstones really work...??? I don't think there exist any proof...if its there ..do tell me....
if we assume tht they work....then out of the above 2 possible reasons..the passing of light makes more sense.....gemstones have different refractive index and according to it they passes light of particular wavelength into our body...In the absense of light, these gemstones are actually only stones !!!
