My car recently started to shake a bit when I turned it on, but I also just moved to a much colder climate so I assumed that was it because once the temp rose, it ran fine. Last night I realized my car desperately needed oil, so I just put some in and when I turned it on again, it was shaking but it seemed much worse this time. Like it was going to die on me any second.

Well shaking is the sign of a misfire, or cylinders not firing at all. You probaly need a good tuneup, replace the spark plugs and spark plug wires.... change the oil and filter, Air filter is very important as well....fuel filter and dump some injector cleaner in the gas tank..... preventative maintenance will save your car and keep it running for a long time.

I am assuming that "on" meaning idling and "shaking" means the motor is misfiring. That said you should also have a SES or a similar orange or yellow indicator on the dash lighting up also. If so, get the codes checked which are stored in the PCM. Normally, these motors burn out the spark plug wires or connectors depending which type of motor you have. By the sounds of it, you should take it in to get a full oil change and get this problem resolved. It will not get better and it is hard on it to run like this. Be sure to be more specific when asking questions as in motor type and the other things like I mentioned here. Good luck.

well if depending on how long you drove it when it need oil you could have a serious rod knock...you should get it checked out by a mechanic because you could end up needing a new motor
