Empires are not permanent entities; in fact, there is good historical evidence that empires tend to be shorter-lived than independent states. Concretely, in the case of the British Empire, what happened is that the UK's global military-political power did not survive the Second World War. The war with Germany resulted in the dismantling of both German and British empires de facto, with the Soviet Union and U.S. inheriting the empires previously divided between the European great powers. In the postwar period, the military power of the UK was so debilitated that it was unable to prevent the independence movement sweeping the globe, starting of course in India and Pakistan, and subsequently all over the globe, over two decades freeing hundreds of millions of people living in colonial imperialist conditions (subsequently in many of those former British colonies, people have been freed to endure neocolonial pressures from the US and continuing poverty and marginalization in the world system). One of the historical lessons empires must learn is that a cataclysmic military defeat for the metropole state usually leads to the breaking away of the colonies or provinces. This was a problem for the Alexandrian-Ptolemaic empire, for the Western Roman Empire, for the Spanish Empire, the Napoleonic Empire, for the Ottoman Empire...and, yes, the British Empire.

Sadly, i think that this is a reflection of British youth of today...as each generation goes by the parenting skills of this country seem to get worse and worse. There was a time when you could say you were proud to be British, these days, I'm ashamed to be British most of the time. Shilpa hit the nail on the head when she said ' is this what the Uk is today...it's scary '.

I have to say i am not one of them classed in that category thank goodness,i have alot of respect for my self and others and i have morals and still have fun.I am proud of who i am,i feel that is not a fair judgement for other young women in Scotland etc because unless you have met a huge number of people like that, then you should not stereotype every other person from the UK in that way.The way that jade,Danielle,Jo,Jackie and other contestants have acted in the show in a nasty, rude manner is not the way all of the other women are.in a nut shell UK citizens should not be judge on or based upon the behaviour of others on the television.

Girls in the UK are the stupid ones for buying the glossy mags and Jade's fake DVD, and perfume. Danielle makes her money from men so they must buy the porn she is in. As for Jo, her fan base consisted of 8 year olds.
But would like to add that I do however agree with the 'characteristics' you have listed for these three 'ladies'

Well said!Bravo!Thumbs up from me!!!Finally someone to say the truth!!!!And the truth hurts!!!
Don't be offended by most of the responses you'll get!!!
And this profile of the "BRITISH GIRL" was created long long time ago!!!!Any foreign person will repeat your words- Loud, lazy,no self-respect etc.
Just look around! How many girls are single mums and/or not in a serious relationship?Plus British girls drink more that men do!!
I have been all over the world but I can't say other women can compete with Britons'!!!And Jade,Danielle and Jo are the perfect example of a British girl!!!It's just sad!

They're gonna kill me for this, but I've got to say it.
You know how British people complain about immigrants stealing their jobs. I mean, WHAT JOBS??? The biggest ambition for British girls is to 1. become a "celebrity" and be doing nothing in style of Jade Goody, Nikki, Chantelle, etc. 2. marry a footballer or 3. "be a mum" = have 6 kids and live off benefits. Erm...

I agree with your assesment of Jo Danielle and Jade.
But prototypes for millions of girls in the UK ?
I totally disagree, those three represent a small minority in this country. Every country has it's fair share of bad apples and the UK is no exception.

How the hell did Danielle win Miss Great Britain. Please don't say she's the best looking girl we have in the UK!
She looks like one of the stupid chav bints who hang round outside our local Spar shop swigging White Lightning and puffing on a Lambert & Butler.
The Indian girl who replaced her as Miss GB (after Danielle lost her crown for sleeping with a judge) is MUCH prettier and classier looking!
Jade is a fat ignorant Chav Pig and Jo is a stupid Essex slag with horrible over bleached hair that looks like her blind grannie cut it with blunt scissors.
It embarrasses me, as a British girl, that those three stupid pikies are being seen all over the world as examples of young British women. We're not all like that honest!!!

I dunno - and this isn't the first BB where I have been pretty appalled at the behaviour of the girls on the show. All I can say is I don't know any women like that. Maybe the situation is bringing out the worst in them but sometimes it makes me feel embarrassed to be a gal and see other women behave like that...
