"Those of you who remember the war will recall that it produced many fine songs, although it wasn't primarily a musical." Tom Lehrer.

I do hope the question was composed by some unthinking teacher as homework, and was not your own conception.

It wasn't a novel. It didn't do themes. Features can be noted in retrospect. And sometimes imposed by over-tidy minds.

If you *must* have a theme, you could try "the clash of great powers". That's been true since Egypt fought in Canaan at Megiddo and Kadesh, or Rome and Carthage contended for the Mediterranean.

Wars do not have "themes". The question is misleading. We characterize historical events after the fact, and that characterization changes with the state of the culture and politics of the present day.
