A friend gave us a one year old leather couch. It was in her house, which has 8 dogs living in it. We cleaned it well for two days.

Day after we got it we started noticing moths in our house, just one or two at first. Now, 10-15 a day. Never saw one moth in our 4 yr old condo before that.

Reason this feels like an emergency: We have two small puppies. Did these moths come from Lice? Fleas? Ticks? From her house? And if SO…Are our puppies in danger now????? Does anyone know anything about this?

Moths come from larval moths...caterpillars. They did not come from lice, fleas, or ticks. Just like butterflies, a caterpillar hatches out from an egg and eats until it is ready to turn into a butterfly or moth at which point it turns into a pupa, lCwhich ike a little case where the caterpillar changes into whatever it is going to be, a moth or a butterfly. They may very well have come from the couch, or from a number of other places. You may never know exactly where they came from. Your puppies will be fine. Moths are harmless to people and animals. However, you might want to get some moth balls for your closet, they do like to munch on fabric a lot.

Correct above -- additionally, the eggs or larvae may have been in the couch and not removed when cleaned -- or their appearance may be completely coincidental. The most usual reason for the appearance of moths in the home is from the grain (pantry) moth, which comes in with flour, baking mixes, etc. You may want to double-check your pantry for the infestation.

Moths like butterflies come from a different form of insect previously. some like eating cotton and may have been caterpillars dining on the underlining of the couch. But now they are hatching and probably pose more risk to your clothes than to your pups.

To the the pups they are nothing more than chalky moving protien niblets. But to your clothes they could easily be the parents of the next generation of cotton consuming pests.
