Before the 20th century, a gay individual was one that was happy, mirthful, gleeful, and so on. After the turn of the century, two words came about: homosexual and the "new" version of gay. Before the 1900's, folks that were deemed to be same-sexers (this term is from Gore Vidal) were called queer, which meant strange (and this concept of same-sex sex being strange only started in earnest after the Roman emperor Justinian).

So, today, we have this huge social construction: homosexuals. I say it is a construction because the term isn't employed to describe a mere technicality; if that were the case, most people wouldn't even bother with the term. What's been built around the idea of one who is gay/homosexual is that same-sexers are more than a group of sexually active folks: they are completely different from heterosexuals. They (gays) suffer from a variety of problems, according to some, problems such as behavioral disturbances, genetic defects, a propensity to spread disease, and an incredible willingness to sin, to name but a few. And, in case they don't suffer from any maladies, they are still different since they talk, dress, and act "funny".

So, on one end of the spectrum, we've folks who don't really care for the new definition of the word. They see only people that have sex and those that don't and everyone goes about their business. On the other side, we've almost everyone else, religious and non-religious people alike who have created gay "culture". So now, thanks to the Church and states influenced by the world's four major religions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and Hinduism), we live in a world where a guy who likes dick is supposed to be a different kind of human being altogether, a "fact" accepted not only by homophobes but even by "gays" themselves.

In any case, there are no gays, there are no lesbians, there are no straight people. What really sucks about our current state of affairs (world over, mind you) is that the above social construct is so accepted and folks are so homophobic that there is an actual need for a gay rights movement.

A gay person is one that is attracted and has sexual feelings for the same gender.

A straight person is one who is attracted to and has sexual feelings for the opposite gender.

a gay person can mean 2 things the first one is that they can be a happy person the second thing is that they like thier same gene like a girl and a girl and a guy and a guy

A sexual deviate. Gay used to mean happy and carefree. A straight person is attracted to the opposite sex. I call them "Sads".

Gay can among other things mean someone who cant tell right from wrong,esp someone who values cleverness over goodness.

Often sees goodness as weakness.

Can mean homosexual

Straight person equels none of the above
