I really liked the show. Basil was a riot.

Ronald, a young boy, complains about the fries.]
Ronald: They're the wrong shape.
Basil: Oh dear. What shape do you usually have? Mickey Mouse shape? Smarties shape? Amphibious landing craft shape? Poke in the eye shape?

Basil is just trying to fix a stuffed head of a moose on the wall when the telephone rings. It is Sybil.]
Basil: Yes, Fawlty Towers, yes, hello? ... I was just doing it, you stupid woman. I just put it down to come here to be reminded by you to do what I'm already doing! I mean what's the point of reminding me to do what I'm already doing. I mean what is the bloody point?! I'm doing it, aren't I!?

And of course I am partial to him after all he has now had a new species of lemur named after him.

I agree with you that it was the BEST, because John Cleese is simply the very best of the Mony Python group, and the young woman who played the 'maid' was also a 'co-creator/author' and for some 'unknown reason' those two just 'CLICKED' perfectly.

I also love many 'other' British Comedies, but my 'feelings about' Fawlty Towers will NEVER CHANGE ... and I am lucky enough to own it on DVD ...

Personally, I'd say The Office is the best British comedy ever, with fawlty towers a close second.

that said, The Office wouldn't be what it is if weren't for Fawlty Towers so, yeah.....I guess you could say it is the best.

It's a good show but not the best. The best British Comedy ever is Monty Python.
