One N for the spelling.
And no, Cannavaro is far from being the best player in the world. Maybe one of the best defenders in the past couple of years but that's about it.
To judge a world's best player, you need to see how much he contributed to his club team, his national team and the technical skills and human aptitudes on the picth.
Ther are much better players out there who deserve the title, very well rounded players who consistently play at the highest levels. But callin a defender the best player in the world is not gonna cut it.
Put it this way, and this might draw some debate: would you ever put the MVP label on a Designated Hitter in Baseball as opposed to a player who is always catching balls and hitting too ?

I agree with you all the way! Cannavaro was only named the 2006's best player of the year--nothing else.

Depends on how you evaluate a player. He probably had a better year than Ronaldinho & he had an outstanding World Cup so he was the most effective player. You might not pay money to watch him, but he is a great defender.
Maybe the Americans have it right: at the SuperBowl they have a Most Valuable Player MVP, which probably fits Cannavarro quite well.

He did have a good world cup , but he's definitely not the world's best player, not even the best defender. Do you really think Cannavaro tops guys like Steven Gerrard, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, etc, etc?

I thought this was a joke.
If Cannavaro is Worlds best, where does that leave Stevie Gerrard, Ronaldinho, Thierry Henry, et al.
Oh I was right, it is a joke!
