Well, Ash might be a good choice. I believe it's a hard wood; the same stuff they make or made baseball bats out of.

But there may be some argument for using Yew. I know Yew isn't really a wood that you'd find, but the Yew is considered the "cemetary tree," so that seems somewhat fitting.

Oak should work fine. Make sure that the wood had enough time to cure before making the stakes.

An absolutely ridiculous question

I find that Oak works best - you can really drive it through the heart. It can be inconsistent though. Pine is more repeatable for the ol' slaying duties. Oh yeah, it has a nice ''finish''

Some say myrtle, because legend has it that this wood was used for Jesus' cross. Or ash, becuase it is sacred to many cultures, and a good strong wood.
I'd use olive, because of its associations with Athena, goddess of wisdom, and Jesus, god of compassion. Wisdom and compassion are two things the vampire needs to incorporate within himself, to overcome his condition. Just ask Barnabas.

I'd go with hemlock. It's easier to carve down to a fine point but pretty sturdy when hammering into a vampyres chest. Good luck!

I thought in folklore Ash was the preferred wood.

Vampires aren't real so there isn't really a point to this question unless your talking about some weird game which you have failed to mention.

I think any solid wood that wont easily break because you only get one shot. Make sure however that you dip it on blessed holy water with garlic so it will BURN LIKE HELL when it enters into them!
