In 1986, the Mets went to the World Series with a 24-man roster. Only 22 played (8 Pitchers, 1 Catcher, 7 Infielders, 6 Outfielders). Which 2 guys did not make it into any of the games?
I also took a look at the Playoffs for the same year, and the same 22 guys played.
My best guess is that the Mets would have had to have a backup for Gary Carter (possibly Hearn?) and another relief pitcher (possibly Myers?) but not certain.

Ed Hearn was one of them. He didn't see any action because Carter played every inning of that Series, but he was brought along as the backup.

The other was a pitcher, but not Myers, who had appeared in only 10 or so games that year and hadn't established himself as the dominant force he would become. It was another lefty, Randy Niemann, who was chosen instead, but who never made an appearance. He's known now as one of the guys who ran around high-fiving some of the fans.

Bill Buckner's wishing he was one of them (for Boston anyway).
