Hi there...animals can also suffer from frost bite and hypothermia in cold climate temperatures especially when it falls below freezing temperatures even thought they have fur coats. The general rule to prevent hypothermia in pets is "if it's too cold for you it's too cold for pets" as well.

Yes, but they usually can take cold a lot better than humans. It depends on the breed. Like a Newfoundland or a husky can sleep outside when it's really pretty cold. My dachshund, which has a short coat, is happy to walk outside when it's 30 degrees F (and refuses to wear a sweater!), but he'll sleep in front of the heat vent if the house is less than about 68. Cats are the same way - most of them would rather be warm, but they can survive cold better than humans.

yes animals do get cold. I have a dalmation/lab cross who does not have the traditional two coats of so many other dogs. If he spends too much time outside on a cold day he will come in shivering and shaking and need to be warmed up. Likewise, during the summer months, he can easily become overheated.

Of course! If you had on a fur coat and it was cold outside could you get cold? Even outside dogs should be brought in when it's really cold. I have cats and Toy Yorkies...the dogs will shiver when they're outside with or without their coats on (my chenille socks with the end cut out of them and holes for their paws). Time to bring them in! Paws, like hands and feet are especially at risk. Not only do they have less hair but like your extremities, less blood flow.

Yes they get cold. That is why you should bring any outdoor pets indoors whenever the weather gets cold or too hot or rainy. My dogs both shiver when I just take them out for a walk when it is cold outside!

Of course they get cold ! Their coats are no different than one I would wear....sometimes my coat isn't enough either. In really cold weather there are stock warnings for animals.

i have a sweater for my mini dach. he shivers when we go out in the morning. he is one of the short haired dachs, and he isn't overweight, so he does get cold. he sleeps under the covers, also.
it all depends on the breed. huskies, malamutes, etc are made for snowy weather.
short-haired and smaller dogs will get cold quickly. i know it seems silly, but if you put a sweater, or jacket on them, it does help.
