6. The L.P. greatly amplified the status of the United States on the world stage as we grew in size and natural resource availability
7. The L.P set the stage for the Indian wars of the mid-19th century between white settlers and Native American warriors
8. The L.P. created new lands that had to be resolved as to their "free" or "slave" status--thus helping lead to the Civil War in 1861

The Louisiana Purchase was also significant for France. Napoleon needed to raise money to fight his wars so he sold part of the Empire. For what it is worth, the US borrowed some of the money for the purchase from Barings Bank, the same bank which collapsed in 1995 because of Nick Leeson's losses in Singapore's commodity markets.

well in terms of the uS and its policies woukld be that Jefferson followed the elastic clause most known as necessary and proper. Jefferson saw it as necessary to own this land in benefit of the uS.It would keep away foreign competition as well.
