We had new HW floors installed and polyuerethaned over the weekend but because we had other work being done we put down that brown paper to protect it. One small spot wasn't completely dry and the paper stuck to it. Anyone know a good way to get it off?

No I didn't mean I would dump the nail polish remover on the floor! LOL. It's not a big area. I'll try the thing you guys suggested and if necessary, they gave us a little poly in a jar we can use to go back over it. Thanks!

Try wetting the small piece with fingernail polish remover via a cotton ball or similar, you don't want to spill it all over the floor.

Then peel it off, if any small "hairs" are left use 000 steel wool to buff them out.

EDIT: Well, I didn't know how big the paper was, but I was going to assume that you'd apply the fpr to the paper with a cotton ball or q-tip and only to the paper and peel it as you go. I wasn't suggesting that you pour the bottle out onto the floor. Yes, it would gum up the finish if you puddled it out onto the floor.

Apparently Naptha is a safer alternative according to the other fellas, maybe you should go that route or simply call your paint store and ask for their advice. Hopefully you come out ok.

I would not recommend acetate since that will definitely ruin the finish. Instead I recommend something like Naptha or Mineral Spirits. Lightly soak the paper, and let it stand for a few minutes. This will soften the urathane allowing you to lift the paper. Then use a paint brush to resmooth the area and allow it to dry. Hope this helps

I had a similar problem but with a bowling alley floor. My guys were supposed to be done as scheduled, but missed by mere hours. They then rolled out brown construction and there were several wet areas as well. I used a plastic scraper and a little naptha and gently peeled the paper up.Then,i gently buffed the areas with 0000 steel wool and recoated it.It turned out fine and the owner and myself were at ease.Good luck!
