The check engine light comes on when any one of the many things monitored by the system have returned a value that is out of range. It can be as simple as a loose fuel cap allowing vapors to vent to as complicated as a failing O² sensor.
Sometimes the problem will correct itself and the light will reset.
Unless you want your engine to be in little useless pieces, I would suggest you NOT rev it up to 4,000 rpm in neutral again though.
If the light comes on again, have them put the scanner on and read the error codes. If it doesn't, don't.

ITs a Ford! no just kidding, Go to a garage or dealer and see if the computer has a code stored. If you revv an engine alot it will make more noise and such. How bad is this shaking? Run it till it blows

Probably time for a tune up. Also, don't put your car in neutural and rev the engine up to 4000 rpm, not good for it.

Why guess at the problem when you can go down to your local auto parts store and they will pull the code from the computer and tell you what the problem is and sell you the replacement part. Usually this service is free. Just call them and see who does this service.

take it to a shop and have them check it out, could just be a sensor.
Next time, don't buy a Ford.
