dude, if you have a job and your mom is telling you what to do with your money (and especially if she is in any way at all talking about your money as if it is hers), then you've probably got bigger problems than not being able to buy your video game system.
Go tell your mother that she's a ***** and that it's your your money that you earned on your own without any influence or assistance from her, so it's not her business telling you what to do with it.
If she has a problem with that, then expect for her to continue to micromanage your life through adulthood.
Knowing this, it is in your best interest to tell her very clearly that you don't appreciate her putting her nose in your business and bossing you around and that she should stop this, else you be driven away from her. If she keeps it up, you should progressively distance yourself further and further away from her every time she does it, as her influence in your life will do little more than hold you back.
You might also consider showing her this thread to demonstrate to her that she is obviously smoking crack and not in touch with reality, because basically everybody who responded to your question (after you updated with info about having a job) agreed with you.
Edit: Also, since it seems like you are female (just noticed this), you should tell her that if you can't get your own system with your own $, you guess that means you'll have to go f-ck some guy who has one in order to be able to use his. That'll teach the old hag.

Since you worked for the money and saved up for a specific item, then you should be able to purchase what you want. As long as you don't owe your mom any money, I don't see why she wouldn't let you. Is your birthday coming up or something like that? Maybe she has purchased one of those video game players for you and she doesn't want to spoil the surprise. If not, then you're going to have to sit down and talk with your mom in a non-confrontational way. Tell her you have worked and save up in order to purchase this. Let her know that you're trying to be responsible and independent and feel you should be able to purchase what you want within reason. Be respectful and give her a chance to explain. Good Luck!

If it is your money, you should be able to do what you want with it.
I'm older than you are and I still play video games! Maybe you should go to the ESA's website and print out some facts about the video game demographics, such as the average age of video gamers. I think your mom will be shocked.
Personally, I believe that if your parents are being assholes, you should tell them to sod off no matter how old you are. If they can't respect you, they are not entitled to any respect from you!

You want 3 different gaming thingumies? Wow, talk about demanding. I don't think 17 is too old to want these things - heck, my 23 year old boyfriend is obsessed with running around pretending to shoot little pixel people - but I do think you're incredibly demanding and rude to demand THREE expensive toys when you're well able to get a job and buy your own junk.

Why don't you get a job and buy the yourself. As far as being too old, well my 27 year old husband who is an Assistant Principle at a high school still plays X-Box.

I know that, right now, it appears that your mother is being unfair. In the future you will thank her for looking out for your best interests. Work on keeping your GPA above average. You'de be surprised how much influence that has on parents rewarding their children. Sounds like you have a very caring Mom. That's awesome!!! Give her a hug.
