I realize that all babies are different and they all react differently.. so if that is what you are going to tell me, spare yourself the time.

What are some general foods to avoid while breastfeeding because they are known to make the baby gassy?

You don't have to avoid anything, unless you suspect that it is bothering your little one.
But the main culprit is dairy. Sometimes, cabbage and broccoli can cause gassiness too. If you suspect it is dairy, eliminate for a week or so and see if it makes a difference.

I ate whatever I wanted to. The only difference is that I ate certain things in moderation such as food that have caffeine in it. Some babies are more susceptible to having problems with certain foods. Don't cut anything out of your diet just because someone said so. Experiment and find out what is okay and what isn't. Your baby will let you know by either rejecting the breast, being fussy or very gassy.

I eat pretty much everything and i don't have a problem with DD being gassy....I've been breastfeeding for 9.5 months. I did recently hear that peanut butter can cause increased risk of allergies for bf babies so i am trying to avoid that, and i don't eat to much tuna b/c of the lead scare....but a lactation consultant told me that the foods you eat (in moderation, caffeine for example) really don't affect baby that much.

Foods you may consider avoiding are chocolate; spices (cinnamon, garlic, curry, chili pepper); citrus fruits and their juices, like oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruit; strawberries; kiwifruit; pineapple; the gassy veggies (onion, cabbage, garlic, cauliflower, broccoli, cucumbers, and peppers); and fruits with a laxative effect, such as cherries and prunes.

A daily cup or two of coffee is fine, but too much caffeine can interfere with your baby's sleep or make him fussy. Remember that caffeine is also found in some sodas, teas, and over-the-counter medicines.

If your baby has allergic symptoms: eczema, fussiness , congestion or chronic diarrhea, he / she may be reacting to something in his environment or the food you are eating...

Talk to your Doctor before you change your diet, too much...and enjoy your new baby!

Like you said, all babies are different. I would avoid spicy foods, that can really upset a babies tummy for sure.
Other than that, just pay attention to what you are eating. If the baby seems fussy after you eat certain foods then you may want to cut them out of your diet.

I think any food in moderation is ok, not too much of anything that you know makes yourself windy.
Unfortunately babies seem to find the one thing that you hadn't thought would be a problem. My youngest daughter got dreadful wind if I ate oranges, so I would suggest avoiding them!

I have a book about it and it says, spicy foods, broccoli, cauliflower, onions. I stay away from a lot of caffeine because that will just make her more awake, so be careful with that.

I've been wondering the same thing. A few nights ago I had chili & my son didn't seem to like the breastmilk the next day.
